Nesting season finishes end of August – book your sweep now

By Joanne Murphy | Uncategorised | 0 comment | 16 July, 2020 | 1

The nesting season finishes at the end of August, which means us sweeps can make sure your chimney is nest free and remove any from your flue. Well, almost back to business as usual! Today we have returned to work, and what a welcome relief this is, having been on lockdown since March (along with much of the rest of the world).  Even better news is that our prices have stayed the same as last year! In order to comply with currentRead more

By Joanne Murphy | Uncategorised | 0 comment | 7 May, 2020 | 0

It’s that time of year – between March and September, birds are nesting and often in chimneys.  This can cause a problem with noise, bits of twigs and nest falling down, or with birds getting stuck.    We’ve had a few enquiries about nest removal because of noisy birds causing a disturbance, but during nesting season it is not allowed; inRead more

We recently visited a customer in Dorset who had problems with their chimney and stove, and had been quoted a very high repair quote to fix it. Step in Dorset Chimney Sweep. It turned out they needed a chemical clean, not replacement stove, liner etc. as quoted. One happy customer, sorted without a huge bill,Read more

It’s National Bird Guard Week (9-13 March 2020) It’s estimated that up to a million birds die unnecessarily in chimneys in the UK each year. They can become trapped, or build a nest and get stuck.  All sorts of birds have been discovered by chimney sweeps including owls, starlings, pigeons and sparrows. Yet it isRead more

Is your wood ready to burn?

By Joanne Murphy | Uncategorised | 0 comment | 23 February, 2020 | 0

We see it all the time.  Chimneys that are suffering from the burning of the wrong types of fuel (or indeed things like plastic, wrapping paper etc. which is damaging to the flue and the environment). Now the sale of poor, low quality fuel is going to be regulated.  This is great news for ourRead more

The risks of burning plastics

By Joanne Murphy | News | 0 comment | 11 January, 2020 | 0

Can I burn plastic items on my fire? Burning plastics on open fires and in stoves or wood burners is highly dangerous.  That pretty colourful flame you get might look great when you burn a crisp packet, but this is the result of releasing a cocktail of toxic poisons, which are harmful to humans, pets,Read more

How clean is your chimney?

By Joanne Murphy | Uncategorised | 0 comment | 31 December, 2019 | 0

We use CCTV to inspect chimneys from top to bottom.  This ensures that your chimney is completely clear and safe to use. CCTV is a critical piece of equipment for a chimney sweep.  It can identify blockages including nests, soot build-up and other foreign objects that shouldn’t be there.   A mini camera can also highlightRead more
