About your sweep appointment

We pride ourselves on a clean, professional sweep every time with no mess or fuss. To deliver the best service for you, please help us to help you!

• Please make us aware if the appliance has been used within 12 hours prior to our visit 
• Where possible, please move any furniture clear of the appliance to allow us sufficient working space 
• As much as we love children and animals, please keep them away while we sweep to ensure their safety.  

What happens next 

You’ll be surprised how quick and clean it actually is! We arrive at your premises, meet and greet, set up our floor sheets and vacuum, having always removed our shoes at your door! 

We’ll conduct an initial inspection from the outside to assess the approximate height of the chimney followed by an internal inspection, so we know what equipment to use to give your chimney the best possible clean.

Then we begin. Modern-day sweeping using the latest equipment is extremely quick and efficient, with the process taking only approximately 10-15 minutes generally, depending on flue arrangement. Once the actual sweep is complete, we then ‘unsheet’, clear up debris, soot and replace the internals to the appliance.

A second inspection is carried out to ensure all combustible material has been removed, and the chimney is clear. We do a type 2 smoke test to ensure it’s completely clear and to ensure the appliance or open fire is not defective. This is a standard, non-sealed chimney inspection to ensure a chimney ‘draws’ properly, which means it carries smoke safely up and out of the flue rather than into the room. It also checks for proper airflow and ventilation, and detects leaks. We also clean the glass as part of the service as standard too! 

Finally we issue a HETAS-approved safety certificate for your property insurance purposes.  

Then we leave, and you’d never know we’d been (apart from being swept, checked & certificated).
